WELCOME TWO ENGLISH LANGUAGE FELLOWS WORKING AT BAC LIEU UNIVERSITY
On November 9th, Dr. Vo Hoang Khiem – Vice Rector of BLU had a meeting with two English Language Fellows (ELFs) from Education Program of the Brunei-US English Language Enrichment Project for ASEAN: Mr. Abdul Rahim Bin Haji Hamzah (Brunei) and Ms. Catherine Marie Bolster (American). Attending the meeting was Ms. To Viet Thu – Chief of International Cooperation Department together with officers from International Cooperation Department.
Participating this program, Bac Lieu University set common goals which created opportunities not only for lecturers to exchange expertise and experience, to update current trends of teaching methodology and to enhance future developments of English teaching but also for majored students to practice speaking and listening English with foreigners and enlarge their knowledge of multicultural education. Thanks to this program, it contributed to boost the quality of BLU’s teaching and learning and fulfill the 2020 Foreign Language Project which Department of Education and Training assigned.
Speaking at the meeting, ELFs expressed their deeply thanks to the warm welcome, conveniently arranged housing, comfortable facilities, transportation and favorable conditions of living and working that they received from BLU. Both greatly appreciated the caring and support from BLU’s officers which language is a barrier ELFs got most during their stay in Bac Lieu city. In addition, they were incredibly impressive of students’ awareness and willingness to learn English. At the same time, they sincerely put forward some good-willed and constructive proposals of class time and equipment for teaching at class and holding extra-curriculum activities. They both promised to make their best effort to improve the English speaking environment through conferences, workshops, small talks, etc so that students can improve their knowledge and English communication skills and lecturers can perform effective and suitable teaching methodology.
On behalf of the BLU’s Rector Board, Dr. Vo Hoang Khiem sent his sincere thankfulness to the Brunei-US English Language Enrichment Project for ASEAN in general and two ELFs spending time working and supporting during the academic year 2014 – 2015 in particular. In addition, he hoped that it would encourage bilateral intercourse better and better. Dr. Vo Hoang Khiem promised to meet their essential demand of teaching and help them solve the difficulties and obstacles with the school’s ability. Besides, he also asked ELFs’ proposals in curriculum and study materials so that BLU can develop its foreign language training and raise the school position in the coming time.
The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere. Finally, ELFs visited the display room and were introduced about the process of establishment, development and achievements of the university over the years.
