BLU Leaders welcomed representatives of US Consulate General in HCMC
On the morning of April 17, 2015, at the negotiating room of Bac Lieu University (BLU), Dr. Vo Hoang Khiem, Vice Rector and MA To Viet Thu - Chief of International Cooperation Department, had a meeting with the delegation from US Consulate General in HCMC represented by Ms. Malikat Rufai – Cultural Affairs officer, Mr. Nguyen Huu Luan – Cultural Affairs Assistant.

At the meeting, Dr. Vo Hoang Khiem presented his warm greetings and conveyed his sincere thanks to the delegation of US Consulate General in HCMC and gave a brief overview of Bac Lieu University. In particular, the cooperative relationship between BLU and US Consulate General has been making good progress for several years. He summarized international cooperation programs with focus on teaching English by sending ETAs and Fellows in recent years. Besides bringing the ETAs of EFL every year, US Consulate General also has been supporting the university through such English conferences. This is an important breakthrough project in cooperation between BLU and US. Its success will open a new chance to develop supporting education sector in BLU particularly and in the Mekong Delta generally. He hoped to receive more support from US Consulate General in the coming time.
Ms. Malikat Rufai expressed her appreciation to BLU as one of trusted partners that had positive contribution to the education development as well as the cooperative relationship with America. She briefly had a introduction of EducationUSA that provides internet resources and publications on various topics, such as: Accreditation, Admissions, Scholarships/Financial Aid, Standardized Tests, Student Visas, Find-a-School Search Engine, Pre-departure Orientation. She would like to improve soft-skills for students taking part in English practising activities via video-conference or holding a trip to EducationUSA with its aim to enhance English capacity skills and exchange knowledge. She welcomed English majored students and confirmed that US Consulate General would create a planning bringing favorable learning and researching conditions for the students at EducationUSA.
Regarding the specific cooperation programs, the two partners also discussed the scholarship support for Vietnamese teachers and students in coming years.

This visit opens more prospects in bilateral cooperation between US Consulate General in HCMC and BLU. This is more significant in the modern context of comprehensive and strong development of the Vietnam-American cooperation, marking the 20th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the United States and Vietnam.
