In order to achieve the goal of realistic practice in teaching and training activities, Bac Lieu University coordinated with the Australian governmental CSIRO organization to send lecturers and students to participate in the training and surveying course under the project program on "Strengthening the capacity to monitor marine plastic waste in the Mekong Delta region environment".
The project is coordinated by the Australian governmental CSIRO organization and the Department of Seas and Islands - Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam to implement Decision No. 1746/QD-TTG dated December 14, 2019 of the Prime Minister on the National Action Plan on Ocean Plastic Waste Management (NAP).
Participants are foreign experts from CSIRO (Dr. Lauren Roman, TJ Lawson, Ruby Annand,...), Vietnamese experts (Department of Seas and Islands, Natural Resources and Environment Departments of provinces as Binh Thuan, Da Nang, Nam Dinh, Quan Ninh Kien Giang Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu,...and Hung Vuong Company, Hoa Binh 1 Wind Power, Greenhub Center,...).

During the course, students were trained on distinguishing different groups and types of plastic waste and methods of monitoring plastic waste according to different locations (Inland, River, Coast). At the same time, students are also instructed to use the ODK Collect application to enter data and survey information directly in the field and participate in surveying in the Mekong Delta provinces to practice skills of teamwork, organizational discipline awareness, surveying, improving professional qualifications, foreign languages, environmental awareness, ...

The training and field monitoring course lasted 8 days (from August 3rd , 2023 to August 10th, 2023). At 9:00 a.m on August 11th, 2023 at the Hall on the 2nd floor of the Information Center – Library, Bac Lieu University coordinated with the CSIRO project to offer certificates to 02 lecturers and 19 students as well as souvenirs from foreign experts to the BLU’s students.
During the training process, foreign as well as Vietnamese experts highly appreciated the learning and working spirit of lecturers and students of Bac Lieu University. As a result, 100% of participants in the course were eligible to receive certificates. The certificate offering ceremony took place successfully in a joyful and excited atmosphere of all lecturers, students and the project organizing board.
